Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL)

Agenda:

Evaluating the Progress of the MDGs and Charting a Course for the Future

The Situation of Afghani Women

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”― Franklin D. Roosevelt

Many of us play mere spectators to the progress (and most of the times, regress) of nations and do not take any action.  While everyone strives for the best; only some prosper. Therefore, to embrace progress, the SPECPOL will work together to discuss and evaluate the progress of the MDGs and address policies to further improve or alternatively terminate lapses in our quest to develop.

“We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.”-Beyoncé

Yes delegates, just as the Queen said, we must make every effort to improve the situation for women. Therefore, the chairs bring to you a topic that will help you engage in uplifting women rights in Afghanistan.  All of us are aware about the acute political circumstances in Afghanistan and hence, as delegates of the SPECPOL, we must work towards dealing with the political turbulence in the country in order to ameliorate the position of women in Afghani society.

This committee will be sure to stretch your thinking skills to tackle pressing development issues innovatively and successfully. Be sure to be well versed with the topic at hand and show off your oratory skills.

Best,

Jahnavi Kothari and Akshat Rajan
